Yarl’s Wood women on hunger strike as UKBA bosses face assault quiz

Up to 80 mothers have reportedly gone on hunger strike in Yarl's Wood detention centre. MPs are to investigate claims that the women were physically abused by officers during the hunger strike.

A group of 80 mothers have reportedly gone on hunger strike, against their detention and conditions at Yarl’s Wood removal centre in Bedfordshire. It is claimed a number of protesters were separated from other detainees and kept in a hallway for several hours on Monday. Campaigns groups have condemned the treatment of the asylum seekers, many of who will be victims of rape and violence.
