Tortured asylum seeker awarded compensation

A woman who fled her home country to seek refuge in the UK after being tortured and raped has been awarded £38,000 after a judge ruled her detention by the UKBA as unlawful.

The BBC reported that by detaining the woman, the judge said the UKBA had disregarded rules designed to ensure "that those who may have been victims of torture were not held in detention".
