UK sends back refused Congolese asylum seekers despite campaigners's fears

Campaigners fear that deportees could face imprisonment and violent persecution on their return.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) is sending refused asylum seekers back to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) despite fears by campaigners that deportees could face imprisonment and violent persecution on their return. There are up to 10,000 asylum seekers from DRC in the UK and although returns to that country were suspended in 2007, they were recently resumed. The UK government claims that deportees will be safe.
